Due to thorough burn-out of the biomass
in modern boilers at high temperatures with the 79 to 85 % efficiency, the
percentage of other substances that pollute the environment (soot, CO, SO2
etc.) is also reduced. High temperatures in especially designed boilers for
biomass enable burning of pitch, essential oils and other solid material,
whereas in the common boilers it is left at the sides of the firebox as soot
and as black, sticky cover. This cover is called tar and contains a lot of
unused energy.
Heating with biomass has several important
advantages:
It is important to choose a suitable boiler
for the type of biomass (chippings, briquettes, chips, waste …) we have at our
disposal. All the boilers provide high-temperature combustion and thus a high
efficiency and suitable accumulation.
The use of boilers that are common today
takes a lot of time. Biomass boilers have bigger fireboxes and adapted storage
battery, where the heat energy is stored for the time, when there is no
combustion in the boiler. It is enough to feed the fuel only once a day or
maybe twice a day when it is really cold, which saves up time. Circulation pump
and proper regulation are then responsible that the heat stored in the storage
battery keeps our home evenly warm throughout the day.
In urbanised areas, where it is reasonable
to have district heating, the feeding of boilers with higher capacities is
performed automatically. Processing regulation takes care for regular feeding
and combustion and contacts the maintenance team via telephone line if an error
occurs. Contracting parties bring the agreed type and amount of biomass to
waste disposal site (chippings, bark, briquettes etc.) where a weighing machine
registers the amount of biomass. Automatic dosage augers (or similar devices)
at waste disposal site then transport the biomass to the firebox.
Bigger devices usually have two or
three boilers and in the transitional period it is possible to heat only with
one or two boilers, which causes higher efficiency. The minimum amount of ash,
which is the product of good combustion, is usually used for fertilizing and
improving the land.
